Ken Kaneki is the protagonist of the popular anime and manga series, Tokyo Ghoul. Initially a timid and bookish college student, Kaneki's life takes a dramatic turn after a date with a girl named Rize Kamishiro. Rize is revealed to be a ghoul, and during their encounter, she attempts to devour him.

He survives the attack, but is critically injured. To save his life, a surgeon transplants Rize's organs into him. This procedure transforms Kaneki into a one-eyed ghoul – a being who is half-human and half-ghoul.

Now struggling to adapt to his new reality, Kaneki must navigate the dangerous world of ghouls while clinging to his humanity. He initially resists his ghoul instincts and refuses to eat humans, but gradually comes to terms with his dual nature. Throughout the series, Kaneki undergoes significant physical and psychological changes, leading him down a path of violence and self-discovery, ultimately searching for a way to bridge the gap between the human and ghoul worlds.
